New York Islanders Team Store

Jeffrey Hutchison and Associates (JHA) recently completed the ground-breaking 7,000 SF Team Store for the National Hockey League team, the New York Islanders, located inside the new UBS Arena in Belmont Park.

It was truly a team effort, collaborating with an amazing group of creatives, led by Value Retail, stated Jeffrey Hutchison, Principal of Jeffrey Hutchison and Associates. Together, we successfully reinvented the sports team store balancing history with sophisticated, rich design elements showcasing the New York Islanders‘ spirit.

The design intent was to create a unique sports retail experience full of character referencing the great history of New York, Belmont Racetrack, and vintage dry-goods stores. The space was designed to be open with clear views and vistas within the store and from the Arena concourse. 

Natural light filters into the space from open windows, allowing for further visual connections to Belmont Park. The space is framed with oak-paneled walls, concrete floors, and theatrical lighting, creating a dramatic backdrop to showcase the careful curation of antique furniture, vintage props, and furnishings. 

The retail journey was further enhanced by creating a series of rooms, each one focusing on different themes or product categories. The center room was anchored by the customization shop, allowing fans to create their own unique products with decals and sewn patches.
